“Please can I take a selfie with you”
“Come jor, let’s take a selfie”
Selfie is fast becoming the love of many. In this ‘selfie series’, we will be looking at some things we can learn from selfies. Enjoy!
I stumbled on a post sometime ago about a tweet by Kim Kardashian
“Kim Kardashian has revealed her ideal selfie partner, and neither her husband nor daughter made the cut. During a Twitter Q&A with T-Mobile Feb. 2, Kardashian, 34, was asked by a fan whom she’d choose to take a selfie with, living or dead. Her response, is, well, surprising.
“My dad,” Kardashian initially tweeted to a fan page account set up for her sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, adding heart emoticons for her late father, Robert Kardashian, Sr. The married mom, however, was conflicted about choosing just one person, so she added onto her response. “Or Jesus. Or Marilyn Monroe. I can’t decide!” she tweeted.” (Usmagazine.com)
I found the response interesting, and it turned out I was not alone. A number of people found it interesting too, but I soon discovered that it was for different reasons.
So I thought a little more about it, yes, we know Kim would want to take a selfie with Jesus, what we are not sure of is ‘Will Jesus take a selfie with her?’
My mind travelled to people like Maheeda, who have a penchant for posting nude selfies. If she was to ask Jesus for a selfie, will He shun her or indulge her?
I discussed this in some christian circles and some thought that Jesus was to holy for such an ‘unholy act’
But I wondered, Jesus has (past and present) a penchant for ‘unholy’ things. He had a way of attracting things that were not the norm for religious people. He ate with tax collectors, who in contemporary times can be likened to our pot-bellied-money-laundering politicians, he touched the leprous, which were totally ostracised from the midst of ‘normal people’. He stood with the adulterous woman caught in the act, even when it was clear what she had done. No wonder he said, “I have come to save the lost”.
I like to say that no one needs a drycleaner as long as you can keep your clothes clean. The need for a drycleaner comes when your clothes are dirty, it will therefore be unknowledgeable or a litlle ‘silly’ for you to be shy to give your dirty clothes to the drycleaner. The drycleaner will be delighted to receive the clothes!
My point is this, the inadequacies in your life, the dirty sins present in your life, the habits that never want to go away, the shameful acts that seem to be sinking you; masturbation, pornography, homosexuality, fornication, sex orgy, drunkenness, envy, sex with sibling, immoral thoughts, e.t.c. All these are stains on your clothe, that you need to hand over to the drycleaner. Why are you running from the drycleaner when He has the perfect washing machine to wash off these stains.
Jesus is the perfect and professional drycleaner, he wants to clean you up if only you’ll allow him. Don’t bother about the shame and all, he is able to make you clean
‘I, the Lord, invite you to come and talk it over. Ýour sins are scarlet red, but they will be whiter than snow or wool” Isaiah 1:18. Come on, how clean can one get?
STOP running from Jesus. Cast your cares upon Him for he cares for you.
So will Jesus take a selfie with Kim or Maheeda? You can answer it. But be sure like the example of the leprous man, the adulterous woman caught in the act, the tax collector Jesus moved with, he will not stop at a selfie until your life is hell-free!
So Christians, let’s note that the church is not a VIP party for saints and angels, chaired by God. If that’s what a church is, we should all just go to heaven. Why is God still keeping us here after giving our lives to Christ? Its because ‘you are the light of the world’. You are suppose to rep Christ here on earth, and how do you do that if you don’t ‘take selfies’ with the ‘unimaginable’. You need to reach out to people like Jesus did. Stop gathering dust, get to work!
Let’s love in deeds and not in words alone!
